Our Curriculum

The Bailiwick 'Big Picture' Curriculum has been written with a view to prepare the children and young people of our islands for the opportunities and challenges of living in the 21st century. The curriculum has been written to flow from age 5 to 19. Increased emphasis is placed on meaningful and purposeful learning across subject areas, skills development and personal achievement.

The Big Picture is intended to develop all children as: successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors and aims to retain the best of current practice in our schools, whilst seeking to place greater emphasis on important elements required to secure well-rounded learning.

There will be a greater emphasis on:

  • taking learning outside the classroom
  • promoting positive mental health and well-being
  • understanding the world of work and and the life skills linked to managing money
  • the understanding of other cultures and their languages from a younger age (Year 1)
  • whilst recognising that the skills of communication (including reading, writing and speaking and listening), numeracy and digital empowerment play a central role in all that the children do and will be integral to all aspects of learning.
